It was a hazy view from where I looked…almost like I were watching through frosted glass. But it did little to disturb me for I was aware that it was a dream; I was in the dream…

As I watched silently, in the distance I saw a strange happening. In the scorching sands of the dessert a flock of sheep sauntered along grimly. Their heads hung low but their gait seemed determined. Quite surprisingly, among them was a wolf cub.

The dull hum of a chant spread through the air giving it a sinister quality. As I felt my heart sink slightly, I watched them make their way towards a huge moss covered rock.

Coming to a standstill below the rock, the flock of sheep stood while continuing to chant. A dismal wave of hot air blew constantly making everything more despondent.

Then all of a sudden the entire picture seemed to move closer to me, giving my heart a thud. The frost on my vision cleared out and gave me a feeling so weird…like my stomach had a pit…like I was suddenly uncovered.

And then in a peculiar moment, I seemed to have jumped time, as if a chunk of it had passed. The sheep looked slightly older and the wolf cub was now slightly bigger. Upon the rock stood a sheep that seemed to have an uncanny resemblance with humans. Shocked, I looked at the flock again and all looked like humans.

All of a sudden, the sheep that stood upon the rock spoke:

“As you stand before me today

a wave of fear flows through each heart…

I know even though you refuse to say

That you do not wish for your loved ones to depart.”

Almost in unison, the flock sent out a low moan. Without letting the feel of the moment pass, the sheep standing atop the rock spoke again, “Living with fear is no way to live…but it is we who have brought this day upon ourselves. We must punish the traitor amongst us who decided to bring this wolf home. So the traitor must own up now.”

Then all of a sudden a fight broke out among the sheep, a fight like I had never seen before. Then in an instant everything was hazy again.

When the haze cleared, a lone sheep stood upon the moss-covered rock, looking down on the young wolf cub. The cub had tears in its eyes as it asked, “Why did you let them all die?”

The sheep now seething with anger spoke, “they have not died invain. They are all free of fear now…fear of predators like you…”

Just then in the distance a pack of wolves appeared from behind rising waves of heat. The cub looked at the sheep and said, “I am not a predator. I am the one who was brought here to guide and protect you all. You freed them of fear that never existed…now save yourself from the fear that you birthed.” So saying the little pup let out a bark and turned to face the pack of wolves….

As the dream state receded, I found myself awaken amidst the chattering of the television.
